The Canon PowerShot A1100 IS digital camera is a compact, user-friendly 12.1 Megapixel camera that weighs 155 grams and offers a whole range of advanced features. This model comes with 4x optical zoom and the user can choose amongst a wide range of framing options in addition to being able to take close-up shots of distant objects. There are two shooting modes: the Smart Auto mode, which enables the photographer to concentrate on the subject as well as the easy mode, which functions with the help of advanced scene detection technology.

The bright 2.5-inch LCD screen allows the photographer to view crisp images of the scene through the lens, which lens is fitted with a lens-shift system and an in-built lens image stabilizer. As a result, not only can one shoot in low light conditions and at longer focal lengths without the fear of getting a blur, but can also customize and correct the color prior taking the picture. Additional features are the face detection that can detect up to 35 faces, the automatic red-eye correction used for removing the red eye effect of flash, and the motion detection technology that helps capturing the motion of the subject accurately.

The box contains wrist strap, 128MB memory card, two AA batteries, AV and interface cables, and user manual kit.

What made me buy this model was the fact that it had all features that I was looking for in a digital camera and a viewfinder, which most similar models lack. Now, the viewfinder might not be that important to most people, but try taking photos when the sun is shining really bright and you will quickly find out how difficult is to use the display instead of the viewfinder. I also love the panoramic option, which I happen to use all the time to take pictures of my (rather large) family.

Any bad points of the PowerShot A1100? The flash memory that it comes with is rather small for me, but I bought an SD card for less than ten pounds, so I can’t really complain much about that. If you are looking for an affordable digital camera that will help you take great quality pictures, then I would heartily recommend this model!
I received this camera as a present and it actually has everything that I need and is definitely much better than my old one, which I managed to drop on the concrete. I am still playing with all the different settings and options, but so far so good – almost all of my photos are simply perfect and the camera is pretty easy to use as well. I wish the buttons’ icons were a bit clearer, but I guess with a bit of practice I won’t have to look at them after awhile. If you want to take full advantage of this great camera, I would advise you to buy separate memory card, rechargeable batteries and a charger. Once you have all that, you can take photos all day long without having to worry about running out of space or buying batteries all the time.
