FAQ
Q) What digital camera resolution do I need?
A) This depends on the intended use of the photos – for web use, even two Megapixel camera will do a great job, while for larger prints, you will need higher resolution.
Q) What is digital zoom?
A) Unlike optical zoom, which allows you to “enlarge” the subject with the use of a zoom lens, the digital zoom uses digital technology that “enlarges” the subject, but this typically results in great loss of sharpness and clarity.
Q) Will I have to buy batteries for my digital camera often?
A) Most digital camera models will drain their batteries quite quickly, however, some cameras have special screen that is illuminated only when needed thus preserving power, and others come with rechargeable batteries and often with a charger as well.
Q) How can I upload the photos to my computer?
A) You can use a card reader or USB cable (which is included with almost all camera models) in order to transfer your pictures or movies to a computer.
Q) What is a scene mode?
A) Many digital cameras work with a few scene modes that will automatically adjust the shutter speed, aperture, focus, and flash, according to the photographed scene.
Q) What kinds of memory do the digital cameras use?
A) Some models have embedded flash memory and all models will work with one or more different types of external memory cards like SD, SDHC, Compact Flash or Memory stick.
Q) How many pictures will my digital camera hold?
A) The number of pictures that your camera can store depends on its memory size and the resolution of the taken pictures (high-resolution pictures have larger file size and therefore fewer of them will be stored).
Q) Will I be able to print high-resolution photos on my printer?
A) Most new printer models would be able to print high-resolution photos, but for best results purchasing higher-end printer and using gloss paper is recommended.
Q) Can I record movies with a digital camera?
A) Most models will allow you to record movies, but the quality is typically worse than the quality that you would expect from a camcorder and often the sound isn’t adequate as well.
Q) What is image stabilization?
A) Image stabilization is vital when using digital cameras with high optical zoom and will help you take blur-free images when using the zoom or longer exposure time.
Q) What is ISO speed?
A) The most important factor to remember is that the higher the ISO speed, the better photos your camera will take in low-light conditions.
Q) What is shutter speed?
A) The shutter speed measures the time that the shutter remains open and is measured in seconds or fraction of seconds.
Q) Should I use the manual control of my digital camera?
A) The auto settings should work great in most occasions, but for fine tuning and blur reduction, the manual controls can be very useful.
