[08/11/2010] Small Doesn't Mean Underpowered

If you are a professional photographer, you are probably using a bigger SLR or DSLR camera and a super small and compact digital cameras might not appeal to you at all. However, the advancement in the digital camera’s technology has considerably ‘shrank” these gadgets and now the smallest packages can offer power and superb quality photos, and most of the best-known manufacturers have a few ultra-compact digital cameras that are high-end and offer excellent features.

Even a few years ago, a small digital camera meant poor quality pictures, fewer options, and great limitations. However, today’s high-end models come with digital and optical image stabilization that reduce the negative effect of hand shake and ensure clear photos, high resolution, and impressive magnification factors. The vast majority of them are also capable of capturing high definition photos and even recording high definition movies with crystal clear sound. These tiny super performers also come with expansion card slots that can take external memory cards with gigabytes of storage space, so the photographer could easily snap hundreds of photos and record a great number of movies as well. The latest video file formats have the quality of the much larger AVI files, used in the older digital camera models, but deliver much smaller files and provide longer recording. Another great advantage that some of the latest digital cameras come with is their connectivity – most of them could be connected to a high definition TV, PC or MAC via USB cable, and some even have dedicated functions that allow the users to quickly and easily upload their images and videos to some of the best-known websites.

If you are shopping around for a new compact digital camera, do not overlook some of the smallest models as they might not only be easy to carry around, but also come with surprisingly great features as well.
