[06/11/2010] Power Consumption - Motorized Zoom vs. Zooming Ring

Although this might not be the most important factor when choosing a new digital camera, knowing the difference between manual and motorized zoom as far as power consumption is concerned, is nevertheless useful. The motorized zoom uses definitely more power and such camera is likely to drain its battery faster than a manual zoom digital camera. In the manual zoom version, even though you have to rotate the zooming ring by hand, each time you do that power is still being used as the camera has to adjust its various settings as the zoom changes. As far as quality goes, there is no difference between the cameras with motorized zoom and the ones with manual zooming ring.
