[06/11/2010] Two Considerations when Buying a New Camera
When buying a new digital camera, most users look at the offered resolution, digital zoom, the brand name, and the quality of the sensor and the lens. These are actually important factors that should be definitely considered, but the media type and the batteries that the cameras use are important as well:
- Media type – most digital cameras come with a built-in flash memory, which is typically insufficient and the users would have to buy external memory cards in order to have enough storage for their videos and photos. These supported media types can vary from camera to camera, but the models that use propriety media types, should be probably avoided unless the camera is truly unique. The propriety media types are typically harder to find in the shops and cost more!
- Batteries - the quality of the used batteries is extremely important as the longer battery life translates into longer period of uninterrupted shooting. However, some camera models also use propriety or odd batteries that are either difficult to find or too expensive. If you are on the market for a new camera, look for models that take the common Lithium-ion or AA NiMH rechargeable batteries, as they are easy to find and their prices reasonable.
